Top Department of Energy Officials Visit the National Fuel Cell Research Center
Top officials from the US Department of Energy met with Professor Scott Samuelsen during visits to the National Fuel Cell Research Center (NFCRC) in the month of September. Dr. David Danielson, Assistant Secretary for DOE's office of EERE, and Richard Kauffman, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Energy each spent time discussing with Professor Samuelsen recent progress on fuel cell power plants and fuel cell vehicles.
Dr. Danielson had an opportunity to ride in a Toyota fuel cell vehicle and to visit a hydrogen station at a retail Shell station in Newport Beach - one of three public hydrogen stations currently operating in Orange County, CA. Mr. Kauffman was briefed by Professor Samuelsen on the early market success of stationary fuel cells and in turn offered helpful insight on future markets and financing related to stationary fuel cell projects. California currently has over 40 MW of stationary fuel cells commercially deployed throughout the state.
